Our Story
At Meristep we believe an active, diverse, well-balanced board is the catalyst for a not-for-profit to do great work across society. It is the lifeblood and everything else flows from that.

We also believe that the current trustee recruitment method available are outdated and too transactional.
Services provided by traditional executive search firms are expensive, too rigid and more importantly deliver the same predictable names.
Combining cutting edge AI matching technology and our expertise from executive recruiting, we can offer talent pools of candidates that offer fresh thinking, backgrounds & mindsets.
We attract individuals to first-time trustees from different backgrounds using targeted campaigns. Our proactive approach ensures that we are also balancing new trustees with experienced individuals.
Our senior team has experience of serving on boards in active volunteer positions. We understand the motivations to become a trustee, the challenges and the reasons why individuals are often hesitant to step forward.
Why partner with Meristep?
The Trustee Recruitment specialists for diverse, representative & impactful boards.
There are over 184,000 charities in the UK and more being registered every week – the need for trustees has never been greater.
Trustees underpin the success and impact of any mission driven organisation in the not-for-profit & charity sector.
A well-balanced, proactive, and strategic board of trustees provide the Senior Lenior Leadership with the vision, skills and experience to achieve its organisation’s objectives.
Charities require a wide range of skills and expertise from their trustees, depending on their size, focus, and activities. This could include financial, legal, fundraising, marketing, HR, or specific industry knowledge.
High Demand for a limited number of trustees
As of June 2023, there were 921,739 trustees serving on UK not-for-profit boards, as quoted via the UK Government’s charity body.
Despite the high demand, identifying, engaging and appointing trustees is challenging. Often it is the same names are putting their hand up to serve – many trustees are serving on more than one board. This is not necessarily negative; however in the interest of developing diverse, broad-thinking boards representative of modern society, attracting individuals from different background is critical.
We need more trustees to come forward and put their hand up to become a trustee for the first time.
